Discovery 1 as base for "kit car"

For no logical reason I'm quite keen to have a 4x4 with a difference and I've chanced upon ncfblitz.co.uk. I'm quite keen on building (or having built!)a "Sahara" which is basically a pick-up replacement, Defender look body built onto a Mk. 1 Discovery chassis & running gear. The model used would be the 300 Tdi ('94 to '98. As I know precisely nothing about 4x4s I'm hoping someone will be able to tell me if this model Disco is any good?. Are there any particular problems which should be avoided or revisions in spec. that I should look for?. I've tried to find a buying guide but so far haven't found independent advice. Many thanks...
